ANAM CARA

As part of our commitment to supporting everyone following the death of a child, we are exploring opportunities to further support the entire family.

 

This event is the first, hopefully of many, of that commitment. This event is open to all parents whose child or children have died, regardless of the age of their child, circumstances of their death, or time since bereavement. We are also opening this Bereavement Information Evening to bereaved adult siblings over 18. This event will take place online on Tuesday 15th Sept @ 7pm.

 

We are joined by an exceptional panel of local organisations and experts in sibling bereavement. Michelle Hartnett is a senior play therapist, systemic practitioner, and bereavement specialist currently working with LauraLynn, Anna May is founder of The Student Grief Network and Executive Head of Grief Programmes at Kaplan International, we will also be joined by Childhood Cancer Ireland, Jacinta’s Smile, and Rainbows. 

 

In the world of grief and loss, siblings, especially adult siblings, are often called ‘forgotten mourners.’ Siblings face not only their own loss, but often the loss of their parents and families as they knew them, the loss of the only person who was present of their whole life, and often the loss of a close friend. We believe this is why it is essential to begin forming an all-island bereavement support for adult siblings facing all kinds of sibling loss.

OUR LADY OF FATIMA PILGRIMAGE

Our Lady of Fatima Pilgrimage to Holycross Abbey takes place on Sunday 30th August 2026.  Rosary at 1.30pm followed by Stations of the Cross at 2pm, Anointing of the Sick at 2.40pm and Mass at 3pm with Celebrant, Fr. Celsus Tierney. All are welcome.

 

MONSTER METAL SCRAP COLLECTION FUNDRAISER

Thurles Mart, Friday August 28th & Saturday August 29th.  All types of Metal accepted. We are not able accept household electrical appliances such as washing machines, etc.  Call Phil on 087 2420074 to arrange collection.  ALL PROCEEDS TO THE CATHEDRAL REROOFING FUND PROJECT.

 

ST JOSEPH’S MENS CAMINO

Every Camino changes us in ways we don’t expect. Join men from across Ireland on Saturday 12th Sept for a 25km pilgrimage through the Boyne Valley, beginning in Drogheda. The day includes Mass, Adoration, Rosary, Confessions, fraternity, lunch, and dinner, with after-dinner speaker Fr. Mark Quinn. Open to men aged 18+. Cost €65 (student €55). Borrisoleigh Active Social Club

The next meeting of the Borrisoleigh Active Social Club takes place on Wed Sept 2nd at 7pm in the Community Centre Borrisoleigh.  At this meeting we’ll be planning what we’ll do for the rest of the year. So put the thinking caps on and be ready to make your suggestions.  

 

Borrisoleigh Heritage & Culture notes

On both Saturday and Sunday past, we held two very successful guided tours of Glenkeen graveyard. Here in Borrisoleigh, with good justification, we like to believe that Glenkeen graveyard is of equal national historical significance as that of Glasnevin cemetery. Our tours were our contribution to National Heritage Week and we would like to express our thanks to the Heritage Council of Ireland for their tremendous support in hosting these events.

It was great to welcome Peter and Jan Fontana to Borrisoleigh on Friday last. Peter’s great-grandmother emigrated from Borrisoleigh in the 1850’s and settled in Eganstown in Victoria, Australia. Eganstown was founded by Borrisoleigh native John Egan who emigrated to Australia in 1841 prior to the great Irish famine. The graveyard in the tiny settlement contains inscriptions of names such as Quinlan, Darcy, Connors, Ryan, Bradshaw etc, that one would freely associate with the Borrisoleigh district.

 
On their trip to Borrisoleigh, among the places that Peter and Jan visited, were old Glenkeen graveyard, the spot marking the Cullohill evictions of 1850 and Garrangrena bridge where Martin Bourke was shot dead by British Auxiliaries on 21 March of 1921.

Host families are needed for Spanish students attending St. Josephs in Borrisoleigh in September.

There is a payment of €220.00 per student, per week and contact can be made to Edel Ryan on 087-3870624 if interested.

Adult Set Dancing Classes

Adult Set Dancing classes are taking place every Monday night in Finns Pub @ 8pm. Michael Cooney is running them. All are welcome.

Overview:
We are currently seeking motivated and reliable individuals to join our Community Employment (CE) Scheme. This is a part-time opportunity designed to support participants in gaining valuable work experience while contributing positively to the local community.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be aged 21 years or over
  • Must meet Community Employment Scheme eligibility requirements (as per Department of Social Protection guidelines)

Key Responsibilities:

  • General gardening and grounds maintenance
  • Grass cutting and lawn care
  • Painting and basic maintenance of community facilities
  • Upkeep of outdoor spaces including litter control and tidying
  • Assisting with minor repairs and improvement projects
  • Supporting community events and activities when required
  •  

Skills & Qualities:

  • Willingness to learn and take direction
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Good timekeeping and reliability
  • Interest in outdoor work and community involvement
  • Previous experience is an advantage but not essential

Independence Day of Ukraine

On Saturday 29 August, in conjunction with the wider Ukrainian community of Tipperary, we will host an event to mark Independence Day of Ukraine. This is a meeting of music, culture and,most importantly, of people. 

Everyone is welcome. As master chefs Cory and Liam will provide the catering, the only rule that applies on the day is to “Come Hungry”.
 

Mat Pilates

Mat Pilates started in June and runs until the end of August. All are welcome.
