Borrisoleigh Active Social Club

Borrisoleigh Active Social Club headed off last Friday for a trip to Salthill.  They stopped in Bunratty on the way for refreshments.  Everybody enjoyed Salthill whether they went shopping,  dipping their toes in the water, the amusements or just chilling out it was enjoyed by all. On the way home a lovely meal was had in Burkes of Clarinbridge.  Thanks to everybody that made the day so enjoyable.

 Borrisoleigh Heritage & Culture

Heritage Week
Please note the change of date for our Glenkeen heritage event. It will now take place on Sunday 23rd August and not on the preceding Saturday as previously stated.

Following the guided tour of Glenkeen graveyard and monastic site Liam Mannix, conservation consultant, will hold a talk in the Community Centre. Liam will give an update on progress with the conservation management plan that is being drawn up for the monastic ruin and adjacent burial site and also allow for any valuable suggestions that people may have to offer.

As our contribution to National Heritage Week, on Sunday August 23, we will hold a guided tour of Glenkeen Graveyard. This commences at 2.15 pm. At 4.00pm, conservation consultant Liam Mannix, whose firm are compiling a conservation management plan for the monastic ruin and adjoining burial ground, will deliver a talk in the Community Centre. Here, he will report on progress so far and welcome any valuable suggestions that people may wish to offer.

A poem on famous Glenkeen written by our local bard, Derry Bourke. It is worthy to note that Derry Bourke has been one of the main motivators in the longtime ongoing efforts to preserve the historic monument of Glenkeen. This goes back all of nine years when a commemorative event was held there to remember the Fenian Rising of 1867 and the role of his grandfather, Jeremiah Bourke who played an active role in that rebellion.
