Vyshyvanka Day

GairdĂn na Saoirse becomes Ukrainian for a day

On Saturday afternoon 30 May last, GairdĂn na Saoirse on the Thurles Road became a sea of colour and a place of song, music and celebration. Over one hundred Ukrainians who live in various parts of County Tipperary came to celebrate the day that is dedicated to the national embroidered costume of their country, the Vyshyvanka.
Cathaoirleach of Thurles Municipal District, Councillor Peggy Ryan, did the honours of opening proceedings and MEP Cynthia NĂ MhurchĂş delivered the keynote address.
Cory Ryan and Liam Donnelly (chefs par excellence) yet again performed the proverbial “loaves and fishes miracle” by somehow sending home 158 people fully fed and happy.
