Borrisoleigh Active Social Club went on their annual mystery trip last Friday.  As we left the Gaa grounds nobody knew where the bus was headed.  We went in the direction of Limerick and our first stop was at the Foynes Flying Boat Museum. We got a very interesting tour.  We were shown how to make Irish Coffees and Nora Delaney received a medal & certificate for being the champion Irish Coffee maker. 

We left Foynes and headed for Adare where there was a bit of retail therapy done.  The day finished off with a beautiful meal in The Woodlands House Adare.  Many thanks to everybody that made the day a success.  The next venture is to the beach. We are heading to Salthill on Friday August 14th.  Cost for the bus & meal on the way home is €35. 
 

Borrisoleigh Heritage and Culture notes

After many delays and setbacks, the information board detailing the story of the Cullohill evictions of July 1850, has finally been erected. Many thanks to the O’Connor and Bourke families of Cullohill for providing the site and allowing the space where this tragic event from our history is now permanently marked and remembered.
 
National Heritage Week is now almost upon us and as our contribution to the programme of events we will conduct a walking tour of Glenkeen graveyard. This will take place on Saturday August 22 at 2.15 pm. Immediately following the conclusion of the guided tour (cr. 4.00 pm) Liam Mannix will give a talk in the Community Centre. Liam, a conservation specialist, is at present compiling a conservation management plan for the monastic ruin and adjoining graveyard at Glenkeen. At his talk he will give an update on progress so far and engage with whatever valuable suggestions that people may wish to offer.

Host Families Needed

Host families are needed for Spanish students attending St. Josephs in Borrisoleigh in September.

Overview:
We are currently seeking motivated and reliable individuals to join our Community Employment (CE) Scheme. This is a part-time opportunity designed to support participants in gaining valuable work experience while contributing positively to the local community.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be aged 21 years or over
  • Must meet Community Employment Scheme eligibility requirements (as per Department of Social Protection guidelines)

Key Responsibilities:

  • General gardening and grounds maintenance
  • Grass cutting and lawn care
  • Painting and basic maintenance of community facilities
  • Upkeep of outdoor spaces including litter control and tidying
  • Assisting with minor repairs and improvement projects
  • Supporting community events and activities when required
  •  

Skills & Qualities:

  • Willingness to learn and take direction
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Good timekeeping and reliability
  • Interest in outdoor work and community involvement
  • Previous experience is an advantage but not essential
