Borrisoleigh Heritage & Culture

Just days following its much anticipated release, Dr. Noreen Higgins McHugh delivered a fantastic lecture to our local Historical Society on the subject of the 1926 census. With a large crowd in attendance, Dr. Higgins McHugh told of the background to the taking and ultimate release of the census, along with the optimum means of navigating its contents. The lecture was recorded and may be viewed on the link below.

PADRE PIO PILGRIMAGE 2026:  

We are happy to announce that devotees of St. Pio will be welcomed back to Holycross Abbey once again for our National Pilgrimage on Sunday 31st May. Ceremonies will begin at 1.30pm with concelebrated Mass at 3pm. All are welcome

 

Knock Pilgrimage to Pray for Peace in the Holy Land

People from all over Ireland are invited to Knock Shrine on Saturday May 16, for a special pilgrimage to pray for peace in the Holy Land. The pilgrimage – organised by the papal charity Aid to the Church in Need – will be led by Bishop William Shomali from Bethlehem. Bishop Shomali will offer a message of hope at 11am, and celebrate Mass at 3pm. All are welcome. More information at www.acnireland.org

Borrisoleigh Active Social Club

Smartphone Lessons run by ETB with the assistance of Transition year students from St Joseph’s College Borrisoleigh started last Wednesday in the Community Centre Borrisoleigh.  These classes will run every Wednesday until the end of May. 

There’s a bus going to Knock on May 22nd.  It will leave Borrisoleigh Gaa grounds at 8am with a refreshment stop in Bunratty on the way. On the return journey we will stop for dinner at O’ Sullivans,  Gort. There are a few seats still available if any member is still interested in travelling. 
 
The May meeting of Borrisoleigh Active Social Club takes place this Wed May 6th at 7pm in the Community Centre Borrisoleigh.

Community Employment Opportunities Available

Job Title: Community Employment Scheme Worker (Part-Time – 19.5 Hours)

Location: Community sites across Holycross, Borrisoleigh and Upperchurch
Programme: Community Employment (CE) Scheme – Ireland

Overview:
We are currently seeking motivated and reliable individuals to join our Community Employment (CE) Scheme. This is a part-time opportunity designed to support participants in gaining valuable work experience while contributing positively to the local community.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be aged 21 years or over
  • Must meet Community Employment Scheme eligibility requirements (as per Department of Social Protection guidelines)

Key Responsibilities:

  • General gardening and grounds maintenance
  • Grass cutting and lawn care
  • Painting and basic maintenance of community facilities
  • Upkeep of outdoor spaces including litter control and tidying
  • Assisting with minor repairs and improvement projects
  • Supporting community events and activities when required
  •  

Skills & Qualities:

  • Willingness to learn and take direction
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Good timekeeping and reliability
  • Interest in outdoor work and community involvement
  • Previous experience is an advantage but not essential

What We Offer:

Knitting and Crochet Group meet every Wednesday from 10.00am to 11.30am in the Community Centre.

Eucharistic Adoration

Adoration in the Church of the Sacred Heart Borrisoleigh will take place after 10:00am Mass until 11:30 am on Wednesdays and Fridays

 


Adult Set Dancing Classes

 

Adult Set Dancing classes are taking place every Monday night in Finns Pub @ 8pm. Michael Cooney is running them. All are welcome.
