Living Garden of Remembrance

A project is currently underway in Borrisoleigh Town Park to create a Living Garden of Remembrance. The garden will provide an opportunity for those affected by illness or bereavement to visit a place where they can enjoy nature’s bounties and take time for reflection. The living garden will include living willow structures, fruit bushes and fruit trees. The living garden will act as an ongoing illustration of the continuous cycle of life and death.

A seed grant of €500 was recently awarded to the project from Milford Care Centre Compassionate Communites. This excerpt from their website helps explain more:-

“The experience of illness, dying and death affects all of us. But these things are never easy to deal with. Sometimes we aren’t sure what we should say or what we should do. Talking about death and dying is difficult. We often don’t know how we might help someone even when we want to. But not facing up to illness and loss as an important part of life only makes it harder for everyone.

The Compassionate Communities Project is an initiative of Milford Care Centre. We are here to support people in the Mid-West to think a little differently about death, to encourage people to plan ahead, talk with others and offer practical support within the community to those facing the end of life. A small change in our attitude toward death can make a big difference to how we live.”
