St. Joseph’s College Notes

BT Business Bootcamp

Two students from St Joseph’s College, Borrisoleigh participated in the BT Business Bootcamp which was held on the Nova UCD campus last week in Dublin.

The two students , David Moran and Liam Ryan were part of the 29 lucky academics selected from over 1100 students who participated in the BT Young Scientist Exhibition back in January where they won two awards for their project ‘’Unlicensed to Kill’’.

Throughout the week the boys learned all about business, marketing and entrepreneurship. On the final day they had to pitch a business idea as part of a 5 student team to a panel of Ireland’s leading businessmen including the head of BT, the CEO of Enterprise Ireland and also Dr. Tony Scott who founded the Young Scientist Exhibition back in 1965. A great week was had by all who participated in the bootcamp. It was also a marvellous achievement and opportunity for them.

Fairy Trail

Over the weekend part of the fairy trail was vandalised. All of the new snail houses were completely destroyed along with some of the fairy doors. This is the second spate of vandalism in the past few months – the willow garden was damaged before Christmas. A huge amount of voluntary time and effort has been put into the park recently and to have this happen is very disappointing and discouraging. We kindly ask everyone, young and old, to be respectful of the work done. The Guards have been notified and we ask that you remain vigilant, letting any member of the committee aware of any anti-social behaviour.

Tipperary War of Independence Tours

Tipperary War of Independence Tours will be launching their new website in Tipperary Town on Easter Monday, 17th of April.

To celebrate this, they will be conducting their first bus tour to some of the places of significant interest relating to the War of Independence in the west Tipperary / east Limerick region.

A bus will leave The Square, Tipperary at 9.00am and we will travel to many of the places associated with the War of Independence in Tipperary ,- Soloheadbeg, Dan Breen’s birth place, Knocklong, Ballylanders and Galbally and many more. Returning by the Glen of Aherlow, we will finish our tour in St Michael’s cemetery back in Tipperary Town.

On the route, we will stop for a break and refreshments at Knocklong with an option of dinner in Tipperary after the tour is complete.

As well as stopping at many of the places of significant interest, there will be on board commentary on many of the incidents, both well and lesser known relevant to the areas we pass through.

As we are sharing this project with Tipperary Chamber and Tipperary Tourism, spaces are limited. The cost for the tour is 20.00euro, excluding food and resfreshments.

For enquiries, phone 087 1633974

Scór

The County Final of Senior Scór was held in Newport last Saturday night.  There was great excitement as Katie Shanahan was announced as the winner of the solo song.  This was a fantastic achievement as there were eight other  competitors.  Katie will represent Tipperary in the Munster final which takes place in Cappamore in April.  Well done to all the Borrisoleigh representatives who all performed excellently on the night.  Next Monday, a night of celebration will be held in the Marian Hall form 7-8.30 to acknowledge all competitors of Scór at all levels.  All are welcome.
