Borris-Ileigh Camogie Notes

Intermediate County Champions 2014

INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Borris – Ileigh Intermediates made history on Saturday last, and won their first ever County Final at this grade.

The first half commenced with point for point scoring from both teams, but from 20 minutes into the first half, Borris had settled to leave Drom behind, and lead by 4 points at half time. In the second half, an initial point from free, and a further fantastic goal  from Nicole Walsh, saw the team continuing to lead. Drom scored 3 points, but Borris retaliated by scoring four more. A goal from Drom left a 6 point lead for Borris, but a great goal from Deirdre Corcoran, sealed the cup and a County Final win for Borris by 9 points.

Scores from: N Walsh 1-07 (1-04 frees), M Bradshaw 0-01, M Maher 0-03, D Corcoran 1-01, S Kinane 0-01.

Borrisoleigh Charity Cycle 2014

Well done to all the cyclists who took part last Sunday week in aid of Down Syndrome Tipperary. A fabulous crowd of over 80 cyclists completed the 40km route in very favourable weather conditions. The organisers would like to thank everyone who helped out in any way ensuring another successful outing. Refreshments during and after the cycle were provided by Gleeson Group, Walsh’s Costcutters, Donal Hurley’s Gala, Shanahans Centra and Stapletons Bakery. The organisers would also like to thank everyone who prepared and served all the soup and refreshments in the Community Centre. Thanks also to the representatives from Down Syndrome Tipperary who attended on the day and to the Borrisoleigh Festival Committee for their support.

Finally well done and thanks to all the cyclists who gave their time and effort on the day and also to their very generous sponsors. Outstanding cards and sponsorship money should be given to PJ Delaney or Ruairi O’ Connell as soon as possible as the cheque presentation to Down Syndrome Tipperary will take place on Saturday the 1st of November in Finn’s Bar. All are welcome to attend.

Borris-Ileigh GAA Notes

Senior Hurling: Hard luck to our hurlers who were knocked out of the championship after being beaten by Burgess in Toomevara. Huge thanks must be offered to this marvellous bunch of players who have for so long sacrificed so much to help their club and help their parish. They are a credit to everybody and their day will come yet. Also we would like to offer our thanks to the management team of Conor Stakelum, Ollie Moran and Mark Rabbitte who have put in such a massive effort in preparing this team all through the year. Our attention now turns to 2015.

U16 Hurling: Our county final ended in a draw after extra time in what was a wonderful, hard fought game of hurling. The display from both teams was of the highest standard and each player must be commended for their great effort. The replay is fixed for the weekend of the 1st of November.

Camogie: Our girls brought glory and honour back to Borris on Saturday afternoon, winning the Intermediate County Final in style beating Drom-Inch. It has been a long road for this bunch of players who now will play at senior level for the first time in the clubs history. We wish them the best of luck in the Munster Championship against Lismore.

Club Gear: Mark Stapleton will be taking another order of club gear. The order will be put in in two weeks time. As always items will be paid for up front.
