St Patrick’s BNS

Captain Colm receiving the trophy

The boys of St. Patrick’s BNS contested two very exciting Co. Finals in Semple Stadium recently. Both our U-13 and U-11 teams did our school and parish proud with the U-11’s achieving Co. honours for the third year in succession and our U-13’s narrowly missing out on the title after extra time. Well done to all concerned!

Staff and pupils would like to express our sincere thanks to Michael Ryan for his hard work and commitment to our school teams. We are very grateful, also, to Paddy Stapleton who kindly presented our boys with their Co. and North Hurling and Football medals following our School Mass on Wednesday.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have supported our school through our recent church-gate collection or in any other way over the past year. In particular we thank Fr. Everard, our Board of Management and Parents Association for their tireless work on behalf of the school. Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine.

Community Games

Well done to all who competed in the Tipperary Community Games Athletics County Final in Templemore on Sunday 22nd May. Borrisoleigh had a great turn out with a competitor in nearly all of the age groups.

Clodagh Ryan came 3rd in the U16 Marathon event and John Ryan came 2nd in the U16 1500m.

Bush & Briar Ramblers

At the trig point on top of the long rock at the Devil’s Bit

With all this glorious weather it is not surprising that we had a magical ramble through the under appreciated local beauty spot that is the Devils Bit on Saturday last. A 3 hour stroll that gave us fresh air, great views and a freedom that is impossible to put into words.  Thanks to all the walkers for adding to the enjoyment of the day. Don’t forget to check us out on Facebook under Bush & Briar Ramblers.

Borris-Ileigh GAA Notes

Inter County: Best of luck to Paddy, Brendan and Conor and all the Tipp panel as they take on Galway next Saturday evening at 7pm in Semple Stadium in round 1 of the All Ireland Qualifiers. The game will be preceded by Tipperary V Longford in the football qualifiers at 5pm. For those wishing to go to the match, the county board has informed us all that clubs WILL NOT be receiving an allocation of tickets for that match. Tickets can be got from all Supervalu or Centra shops across the county and the closest being Shanahans here in Borris. So to avoid disappointment, I would advise everyone to act fast and get tickets early if you are wishing to travel to the match.

Senior Hurling: As of yet there has been no fixture made for our north quarter final against Toomevara. The fixture will depend upon how Tipperary do against Galway on Saturday. We will let people know once we know more details.

Junior Hurling: Our Junior A team take on Templederry in round 2 of the north championship on Sunday 6th at 1.30pm in Toomevara. As always your support is appreciated. Hard luck to our Junior B team who were beaten by 7 points against Kildangen on Friday evening. It was a close match that just slipped away from us in the last period of the game. It is thought the next game will take place on the weekend of the 13th of July.

Minor Hurling:
Well done to our Minor team who had a good hard fought win against Kilruane McDonaghs on Thursday evening last in the park. Despite trailing by two points at half time our lads showed great character and saw out the same to win by 0-13 to 1-09. There is no game for this week.

U16 Hurling:
Hard luck to our u16 team who lost out to Shannon Gaels by 3 points in a very close match on Monday evening. The lads showed great spirit throughout and were unlucky not to get a result from the game. We are due to play Moneygall next on Monday evening in Borrisoleigh.
