HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY

St. Joseph’s College Notes

The Future is Food: Engaging Young Food Entrepreneurs

In their Home Economics class our Transition Year students have completed a programme developed by the Taste Council in collaboration with Bord Bia called “The Future is Food: Engaging Young Food Entrepreneurs”. The aim of this programme is to introduce students to the food industry in Ireland and to give them a better understanding of the artesian food sector and how it is driven by entrepreneurship and innovation. Students also learned about the importance of the Agri-Food Sector to the Irish economy and the role sustainability plays in food production.

As part of this programme students formed four Mini-companies. Each company researched, developed, produced, marketed and sold a food product to the staff and students at St. Joseph’s College. These products proved popular with everyone especially the Oreo balls which were pre ordered and delivered to the recipient with a personalised message.
