Borrisoleigh Historical Society
Friday night last, saw a tremendous attendance at the local historical society’s first lecture of their winter/spring series. The occasion saw the return of Prof. Gerry Boyle, a native of our parish, whose talk, “Then and Now, — The evolution of modern Irish agriculture”, dealt with the changing in farming and farming methods that have taken place over the past sixty years. If you missed the talk or were unable to attend, you can watch the recording below or click on the link below the video to view the recording on Youtube.
Proceeds from the night we donated to “Ramble with Ronan” to assist him and his family in their present difficult time, – and also to Suir Haven Cancer Support Centre in Thurles.
Ronan Loughnane has, for many years, been a loyal supporter of Borrisoleigh Historical Society and has been an inspiration to all who take an interest in local history.
Our photos show our guest speaker of the night, Prof Gerry Boyle, along with his nephew, Diarmuid and Michael Delaney, our society’s chairman. And Michael Delaney presents the proceeds from the event to Eamon Corcoran, who accepted on behalf of ”Ramble with Ronan”
Coolderry School Reunion
Coolderry School closed in July 1975 and to commemorate the closing Fr. Hennessy will celebrate Mass. This will take place in Borrisoleigh Church on the 28th of November at 8pm for deceased past pupils and teachers.
Refreshments will be served in Stapletons pub after Mass and all past pupils and friends are invited. We hope it will be a night of chat, memories and renewed friendships.
