 Borrisoleigh All-Ireland Léiriú Group

Borrisoleigh’s All-Ireland winning Léiriú team were honoured to be invited by the INTO to perform at the inauguration celebrations for incoming President, Seán Mc Mahon at Langton’s Hotel, Kilkenny recently. Proclaimed by the new president to be the highlight of the night, the group’s blend of history, hurling, comedy, music, song and dance was a great hit with the audience and they were delighted to receive a standing ovation from the Central Executive and delegates representing 32 counties. Group members are pictured below with President Sean Mc Mahon following their performance. Well done to all concerned.

Bush and Briar Ramblers

A group of our ramblers ventured up Arra Way overlooking Lough Derg last Saturday morning taking in the Millennium Cross. Despite meeting some rain and fog which hampered the lovely views at times, everyone really enjoyed the morning.

Borris-Ileigh unfortunately narrowly lost out to Drom-Inch in the League County Final last Monday evening. Fifteen minutes into the first half, Borris were up 1-03 to 0-02. An injured Sarah Kinane had to go off, and was replaced by Chrissie Kenny. Half time score Borris 1-08 to Drom’s 2-07.

Borris came back fighting in the second half, and were level half way through, however Drom gained three points, to be levelled by a great goal from Moira Maher with eight minutes to go. A point and a goal in the last minutes of the game from Drom, won them the League and victory by 4 points.

No doubt our Intermediates will be back fighting for the Championship commencing in August. Best of luck girls.

 Borris-Ileigh GAA Notes

Senior Hurling: As of yet there has been no fixture made for our north quarter final against Toomevara. The fixture will depend upon how Tipperary fares against Dublin in the All Ireland Quarter Final on the 27th of July. We will let people know once we know more details.
Junior Hurling. Our Junior Bs were in action this weekend in what was their 2nd championship game. On Saturday evening we travelled to Cloughjordan to take on Lorrha at 7pm. Rain soaked conditions made playing difficult after some heavy thunder showers. After a bright start we faded and found it difficult to get back into the game against a strong Lorrha side who had competed at junior A level last year. We lost by 2-14 to 0-09. The team was: Gerry Treacy, Toby Kavanagh, Pauric Maher, Stephan Doolin, Cathal O Connell, Danny Ryan(R), Paidi Scanlon, Liam Devaney, Noel Kent, Matt Stapleton, Danny Ryan(B), Tommy Mockler, Rory Ryan, Diarmuid Kinnane, Micháel Carey. Subs used-Dean Ryan, Darragh Ryan, Mick Small, Sean Ryan, John Fitzgerald
Minor Hurling: Hard luck to our minor team who lost out to Toomevara in round two of the minor championship. With only a point the difference at the break, we unfortunately didn’t push on for the second half and lost by 0-20 to 1-08. The team that lined out was as follows: James McCormack, Aaron Reid, Declan O Connell, Jack Prior, Philip McCormack, Shane Kenny, Eoin Stapleton, Keiran Maher, Franz Leimhleimer, Jerry Kelly, Danny Ryan, Micháel Carey, Sean Kenny, Jack Hogan, Liam Devaney. Subs used-Dan Brooks
U16 Hurling: Our u16 team recorded their second win of their campaign on Monday night in Borrisoleigh against Portroe on a scoreline of 6-14 to 4-10. They will play Borrisokane in round 5 next week. The team that lined out was: Aaron Rabbitte, Seamus Ryan, Jack Prior, Oran Bergin, John Ryan, Aaron Reid, Alvis Danko, David McCormack, Ray McCormack, Dan Brooks, Jerry Kelly, Patrick O Connell, Aaron Donnelly, Nicky Cooney, Conor Keane.
Intercounty Hurling: Tipperary will now take on Dublin in an All Ireland Quarter Final. This game will take place on Sunday July 27th in Semple Stadium at 4pm. The game will be preceded by Limerick V Wexford at 2pm. Tickets will cost €30 for both stands while the terrace will cost €20. Juvenile tickets cost just €5 and there will be concessions for students and OAPs at designated gates.
Hard luck to Dan McCormack who lined out for the Tipperary u21 team last Wednesday evening(16th) against Clare in Cusack Park, Ennis at 7:30pm. In a close and tough match, Clare eventually got the win after extra time. Hard luck to all involved
