Borrisoleigh Scor were well represented in Cashel last Sunday evening at the Co. Final of Scor na bPaisti.
First up for Borrisoleigh was Liam Ryan in the Sean-Nos Dancing competition. This is a new competition for Scor na bPaisti. Liam danced very well and had great support from Borrisoleigh. It was just rewards for him to win this competition. Well done Liam.
Next up for Borrisoleigh was the novelty act. The local group performed "Poor Auld Paddy". Another great performance from the kids and again well deserving to win the competition. The performers included: Kate Delaney, Jane Delaney, Sinead Ryan, Eddie Ryan, Niamh Ryan, Ewan Young, Dan Ryan and Pauric Stapleton. Well done to all the kids and their mentors.

Scor Sinsear is next on the agenda. The Co. Semi-Final between North and South Tipp takes place in Borrrisoleigh on Fri Mar 8th at 8pm. Anyone interested in taking part should give their names to any of the local committee.

Best of luck to our neighbours Templederry who will take part in the All-Ireland of Scor na nOg novelty act in Derry next Saturday Feb 23.
 


Borris-Ileigh Camogie Club

Our registration morning went very well on the 16th February 2013, could those who were unable to attend please contact Paula Ryan club registrar to arrange payment of membership and collection of our Code of Ethics, Conduct and Best Practice. It is vital that everyone involved in the club is familiar with this document. The County Board requires full details of club registration ASAP so please could all those outstanding arrange same (€35 adults, €15 juveniles) if fee is a problem please contact Paula and we will come to an arrangement that suits. Committee meeting has changed to Wednesday the 20th at 7.30 pm.

Well done to all our third level students who took part in the Ashbourne, Purcell, Fr. Meagher championship on the 16th and 17th February.
Congratulations to Borris-Ileigh’s Brendan Maher. The Tipperary senior hurling management team have named Brendan as vice-captain for 2013.

A big congratulations to our Scor na bPaisti competitors who won the Sean Nos dancing and novelty act competitions at the County Final in Cashel on Sunday the 17th February

The intermediate panel continue training on Friday at 7pm and again on Sunday morning. Our under 16’s continue training at 11 am Saturday morning. Training will resume for all our other age groups shortly.

Pat Sheridan the County Board Development officer has organised two development nights first on Friday  the 22nd at 8pm in the Ragg Camogie Grounds , the second in Clonmel at Ryan’s Skoda Dealer on Thursday 21st at 7.30. Club officers and trainers for u8, u10 and u12 are requested to attend. Deirdre Murphy the regional development officer for Munster will be there both nights.

Borris Ileigh Juvenile Notes

U14 Feile Hurling. This week end sees a return to action for our U14 Hurlers where when we are scheduled to play Kilruane mc Donaghs in Borrisoleigh at 2.30 pm in the preliminary round of the Feile competition. The competition is run on a straight knockout basis.

Attached also are the groups for our U16 & U14B North Football championship and our U12 Group 2 Premier Football games. The U16 matches will generally be on Monday nights, with the U14 matches played every wednesday evening and the U12 games every Friday evening during the month of April. These are provisional fixtures and will be confirmed closer to the time.

Player registration forms will be handed out at training in the next week or so and again this year the fee has been set at €10 per juvenile player or €20 for two or more juvenile players. This fee represents great value for the year and all players are expected to have registration fees paid before the competitions begin.

Our annual Church gate collection takes place this week end at all masses. Your continued support is appreciated.


 


Borris-Ileigh GAA Notes

White Collar Boxing- Momentum is building for the much anticipated fight night between Borris and Drom. Training is continuing and the fighters are getting closer and closer to fighting fitness. Tickets are still selling at a fast rate so make sure you get yours early as there will not be any available on the night. Tickets are €20 and are available from all fighters, ringmen and committee members. The programme for the night has been drawn up and the schedule of fights shall be made public this week.

Membership- We ask all those who have not paid up membership to come forward as the deadline of March 31st is approaching. Membership for all adult players is €50(including insurance) and €30 for all adult members. We ask all those who are signing up to send us on their phone numbers and email addresses so we can improve our contacts base and keep people informed to the best of our ability. Also it is vital for those who want updates of match fixtures to be members as our text messaging service shall not include non members.
Club Website- This Friday night the club shall be launching out new website in Stapleton’s Bar at 9:30pm. The website has been built by Niall Cowan over the last few months and shall be a great resource to all those interested in Borrisoleigh hurling. The club are also happy to announce that we are now on twitter and can be followed at @Borris_GAA. We hope you can follow us to keep up to date with all the latest news.

Senior Hurling- The Borris seniors got off to a good start this year with two matches against Holycross in the park on Sunday morning. This was a great opportunity to used all our players and especially for many of the new young players who have been added to the panel for the coming year. We would like to wish them all the best and hope to see them in the Borris jersey for many years to come. We would also like to wish Conor Kenny all the best who also made his debut for Borris after his transfer from Celbridge.
Tipperary Announcement- On Saturday evening, word filtered back to Borris that Brendan Maher had been named as Tipperary vice captain for 2013. This is a huge honour for Brendan and his family as well as the club. We wish him all the best for the coming year and hope he can help lead Tipp to glory. We would also like to congratulate Shane McGrath of Ballinahinch who was appointed captain. Hopefully we will be having a night out in An Bonnan Buí in September with Liam McCarthy.

Senior League- We have been drawn in the first round of the county league away to Carrick Davins. This match will take place on the weekend of the 1st/2nd/3rd of March. As yet we do not have a date for the first round of the north championship against Borrisokane but it is believed that it could be on the weekend of the 6th of April depending on Tipperary’s league performances.

Fitzgibbon Cup-The club would like to wish all the best to our remaining players in this years Fitzgibbon Cup. The last of the quarter finals shall take place this year. Dan McCormack is already assured his place at the weekend stage in GMIT where he has being lining out at centre forward for UCC. Paddy Stapleton’s UL must first overcome favourites UCD in one the remaining quarter finals this week. Should UL prevail, they will be up against UCC, where we could easily see our two club men marking each other on the day. In the other side of the draw, last year’s Ryan Cup winners Mary I await the winners of LIT and WIT-for whom Tommy Kavanagh is a panel member of. Also well done to LIT Tipperary(formerly TI) who have qualified for the weekend stage of the Ryan Cup which is held on the same weekend of the Fitzgibbon Cup. The team is managed by Toby Kavanagh and is coached by Brendan Maher. Well done to all involved. The weekend shall take place on Friday the 1st and Saturday the 2nd of March at the GMIT campus in Galway.

Youth Coaching- For all those interested in becoming involved with underage teams there shall be a Award 1 Youth Coaching Programme commencing on Monday 25th of Febuary in Nenagh Vocational School. The numbers shall be restricted to 24 and there shall not be another one ran until next October. So if you are interested please contact Gerry Treacy on 086 3958405 for an application form.
