 Thurles Education Centre Summer Programme

Participants of Thurles Education Centre Summer Programme

The summer programme in Thurles Education Centre has kicked off with a range of activities. A visit to the famine museum in St Mary’s Church proved to be very interesting as we listened to many anecdotes from our guide, George Willoughby about the famine in Thurles and the affect it had on the people. This museum is a fantastic resource for anyone interested in history or who just likes a good story.

Our students are enjoying weekly flower arranging workshops with Eileen Kennedy and visits to the library where they are undertaking research projects.

We also visited a recent exhibition in The Source Arts Centre gallery entitled “Five Painters”. The exhibition is curated by PJ O’ Connell and is well worth a visit for its range of contemporary ideas and painterly techniques.

Cashel based drama teacher and writer, Robert Little facilitated a drama workshop for us. The workshop covered areas such as communication, movement, improvisation and culminated in group dramatisations.
