Thanks to all who supported our Table Quiz on Good Friday, despite stiff competition from over 30 teams, the team of Johnny, Mary, Sean and Ciaran Tynan emerged as winners on the night.  In addition the Easter Raffle took place during the interval and the winner of the first prize of the Borris-Ileigh jersey was Denis Leamy of Currabaha, with the winning ticket sold by Sarah Leamy.  A big thank you to the following, all the local business’s who provided spot prizes, all the young children who sold tickets for the Easter raffle, the Marian Hall committee, Sean O’Shea for the loan of the tables for the quiz, our quiz master Thomas Russell and anyone who helped out on the night. Thanks also to all who supported both the Quiz and the Raffle, it is very much appreciated

Over the last few weeks we played a number of hurling and football games in tournament and championship, U10s played in the Paddy Carey tournament hosted by Drom-Inch and captained by Dylan Molloy won the Plate final beating Thurles Gaels, U12s lost to both Ballina and Silvermines in the U12 football championship, U14s lost to Kilruane McDonaghs in the Feile na nGael North quarter final, and our U16s went down to Templederry and drew with Kildangan in the U16 football championship.

Congratulations to following players who represented the club on the North Football squads over the last few weeks, U14 Danny Ryan and Jack Hogan, U15 Paidi Scanlon, Dylan Reid, Dean Ryan and Thomas Ryan and U16 Seamus Howard and Darragh Ryan, well done to all.

Fixtures, the football championship continues over this week with the U14s playing Kilruane on Wednesday and the U12s due to play Newport on Friday.

The U14 hurling panel received a new set of jerseys for the coming season.  Due to sponsorship received from Joe Loughnane of Finns Bar and Jimmy Stapleton of Stapleton’s Bakery, a large chunk of the cost of the set was covered.  The players were delighted to receive them in a presentation from Jimmy Stapleton last weekend.  Unfortunately Joe Loughnane was unavailable to attend.  The club would like to acknowledge the generosity of both businesses.

Any outstanding membership forms should be returned as soon as possible to team managers or committee members.

Nenagh Film Week

The "Secret of Kells" showing on Saturday 24th April in the Ormonde Cinema

Nenagh film-makers Robin Wallace and Tom Ryan feature new work at the forthcoming Nenagh Film Week (April 21st – 24th). Wallace who last year produced the well-regarded ‘Nenagh – A Town Forever Changing’ which screens at the Festival, has also completed a new documentary on the Silvermines which will receive its first public showing.  In the film, local historian Eamonn De Stafort traces the history of mining in the Silvermines mountain range noting the cost both human and environmental that came with jobs and the industrialization of the area.  Tom Ryan’s new film is a short comedy called ‘Can’t Stand Losing You’ and features Sean Birrane as a man attempting to get over the break-up of his relationship.  Both films screen in a special evening of short films on Wednesday 21st of April.  Further details on the Festival are available from www.nenaghfilmweek.com

Vandalism at St Patrick’s BNS
Staff and pupils returning to St. Patrick’s BNS on Monday last were disappointed to discover that they had been the target for vandalism during the Easter break.  In early March pupils from all classes had worked hard to plant fruit and vegetables as part of the Agri-Aware Incredible Edibles project.  All concerned were delighted to see the seedlings develop and looked forward to harvesting strawberries, lettuce, spinach, carrots and potatoes before the summer holidays.  However, the children will now be denied the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of their hard work due to the mindless actions of those who chose to destroy the project.  Not being content with breaking the flowerpots and emptying the grow-bags, the perpetrators threw the pots at the windows and back wall of the school and also took the opportunity to move the wheelie bin onto the school pitch and knock it over so that the contents were scattered around.

This act of vandalism is being investigated by the Gardaí and all at the school would be very grateful for any assistance in identifying the individual or individuals responsible for the damage.  If you can help in any way please contact the school or Gardaí.  Please help us to ensure that those who seek to destroy worthwhile activities in our community are not allowed to continue on their trail of shameful destruction.  Thank you.
