 Fair of Borris Dance 2011

Following on from the success of last year’s Fair of Borris Social, The Management Committee of the Community Centre decided to run another one this year. A large crowd came in their dancing shoes and really enjoyed the night of dancing to the ever-popular and traditional style of music by the Castle Trio. Thanks to all who volunteered with the refreshments etc. Míle buíochas! A great night was had by all.

Charlie can be seen on the right dismounting his sturdy steed (A Massy Ferguson 5435) on which he travelled to Borris for his night out! Tis just as well he had a nice ‘n’ cosy cab for the trip given the night that was in it!

 Albanian Building Project 2011

Don Ryan and Noreen & Barry Ryan with Kieran Byrne from Wexford (founder of the ‘Heart to Hand’ Charity) at a recent gathering in Holycross after this year’s Albanian Building Project.

The Borrisoleigh Website Committee recently learned that three members of our local community travelled to Albania with the Charity ‘Heart to Hand’ – an Irish based charity that has been working in eastern Europe for the last number of years where they have been building churches, repairing, decorating and painting orphanages, installing water pumps, roofing domestic homes, installing generators and other works.
Since 2005 many men and women have been involved in these projects, travelling at their own expense and also they help to raise funds for materials to be used on each occasion. Working mainly with the Sisters of Charity, (Mother Theresa Order) who give direction on the projects to be undertaken these trips are completed within six or seven days working from dawn to dusk (or beyond).
The organising group (based in Holycross – Ballycahill) wish to express their gratitude to all who have supported, financially and in other practical ways their work, and they say that what is achieved each year would not have been possible without the help of so many. Well done to Barry, Noreen and Don for adding their ‘tuppence halfpenny worth’ to the project this year. (Gerry Ryan of Cooleen travelled with the project last year.)
