Hurling Championship: The U12 campaign began last week. This year we have 2 teams taking part one in Premier League Division 2 and one in Premier League Division 3. The Division 3 team played Roscrea last week and lost narrowly. The Division 2 team play Silvermines in Dolla this Friday with the Division 3 team playing Shannon Rovers in Borrisoleigh on Thursday. U14 Hurling C/ship, we continued our good form with a win over Ballina last week, in a tough game we eventually got the upperhand with a late goal to win by 5 points. We have a bye this week and play Burgess in Kilcolman next Wednesday. U16 training continues as usual, changes will be notified by text. Best wishes to all U16s who started Junior Cert this week.
Peadar Cummins Tournament: In sunny but windy weather we hosted the inter-divisional U14 annual tournament in Borrisoleigh on Saturday 28th May. The two semi-finals between the North & Mid and the South & West produced some lively hurling the results of which meant the West would play the Mid in the Plate Final which the Mid won following a closely fought game. The North then played the South in the Peadar Cummins Final. This was a great game which was played with great intensity. The South playing with the breeze in the first half led at half time. However despite playing against the wind in the second half the South continued to hold the upper hand and finished strongly to take the title back South for the first time since 2002. The Club was well represented on the North Panel by Eoin Stapleton and Micheal Carey. Congratulations and well done to both lads. Sean Creamer Chairman of the County Bord na nÓg presented the Peadar Cummins Cup to South Captain Ross Peters of St. Marys and the Plate trophy to Mid Captain Eric Fanning of Moycarkey/Borris and both Sean and Juvenile Club Chairman Michael Carey spoke of the importance of this great tournament in the underage hurling calender. Although too numerous to mention individually, the juvenile club committee would like to thank all those who helped to make the day such a success, including those who prepared the field, manned the scoreboard, umpires, referees, prepared the match program, provided and served the refreshments and Drom-Inch GAA Club who hosted the semi-final between the South and the West. Well done to all concerned.

On Sunday afternoon, 12th June 2011, Thurles and District Vintage Club will hold a Vintage Rally in Russell’s field, Corbally (Dublin Road), Thurles. The proceeds of the rally will go to the North Tipp Hospice, you may recall that our eight previous rallies raised over €100,000 for this special cause. The club has also raised over €40,000 for other charities over the same period. We are aware that many charity events call on your generosity, however this is a very deserving local cause.
