Track-Attack is Back…….

As we enter our fourth year, we invite all comers to jump aboard the Track-Attack Train and come to Borrisoleigh on Monday night next (25th) and become part of a unique community project. In a time when physical fitness, general well-being and recreational interaction is paramount, Track-Attack offers the ideal platform for everyone to perform on irrelevant of age, gender and standard.

Monday night next will see the kickstart of the new season with an 11 week Series which will end with our Christmas Run on the 11th of December. We cater for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you wish to walk or if you can produce a 4 minute mile, everybody is equally welcome.

To participate, you simply have to just become a Track-Attacker. The cost of this is €10 for adults and €5 for Under 18’s. As Track-Attack is not affiliated to Athletics Ireland, membership to our club is open to all and it will have no effect on your membership to your affiliated club.

The nightly cost for the Series is €2 for adults while Under 18’s are free of charge. Where possible, we ask participants to pay the €20 upfront on the opening night which covers you for the 11 nights as this would help to dramatically cut down on the administrative work for the volunteers who organise the Series.

On becoming a member, you receive a Track-Attack number. This is what you shout out when passing over the finish line each night and your time is recorded so participants can follow their progress from week to week. All the times and general information will be posted on our Facebook page each week but the beauty of our system means that your time is anonymous and only known to yourself as we use numbers and not names on the Facebook page.

As with all our events, we offer a novelty aspect to proceeding which adds greatly to atmosphere created each night. This time we are doing the Track-Attack “All Ireland Championship”. After week one, we will break all participants into 32 teams and points will be gained by the rate of individual improvement and not how fast individuals performs.

There will be 3 different distances to choose from namely 3km, 4km and 6km. A warm up will begin each night at 7:40pm for anyone that wishes to participate in it while the start whistle will echo at 8pm.

Dust the cobwebs off the runners and head to Borrisoleigh on Monday night next and kickstart your new get fit scheme…..

Borris-Ileigh GAA Club Notes

Senior:

A huge congratulations to our Senior hurlers who booked their place in the 2017 Tipperary Water Tipp Senior Hurling Championship Semi Final for the first time in 4 years after a fantastic victory over a much fancied Loughmore Castleiney last Sunday evening in Semple Stadium. A draw between the two teams early in the year in Round 2 of the Roinn 1 group games earlier this year set the tone for what turned out to be a very tense tight affair from start. We raced into a 0-05 to 0-02 early on thanks to early scores from Conor Kenny and Jack Hogan along with Brendan Mahers ever reliable free taking. But Loughmore weren’t going away and finished the half in a strong fashion to lead at the break on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-10. Finding themselves two points down 10 mins into the second half the boys dug deep and managed to regain thanks to some fantastic scores from Conor Kenny and two inspirational points from Dan McCormack. We found ourselves 3 points ahead approaching the games climax when some fantastic work Jerry Kelly in dispossessing Loughmore corner back Joey Hennessy before laying the ball off to Niall Kenny who ran straight for and batted the sliothar past Shane Nolan in the Loughmore goals to put the result beyond doubt. A late John McGrath goal proved to be too little too late as we ran out deserving winners on a score line 1-18 to 1-17. A fantastic achievement for all involved and a just reward for all the hard work they have put in throughout this season.

Our next step in this years Championship will see us come up against our age old rivals and neighbours Drom Inch in the County Senior Hurling Final Semi Final. With no love lost between the two parishes it is sure to be a rip roaring contest. A victory here would send us through to our first County Final in 29 years. The game will take place next Sunday the 24th of September in Semple Stadium, Thurles at 3.30pm and will be followed by the meeting between Thurles Sarsfields and Eire Og Annacarthy in the other Semi Final at 5pm. Best of luck to all players and management, it has been a fantastic year for our club hopefully we can go one step further and get a chance to compete for the Dan Breen cup. As always all support greatly appreciated.
