The last set dancing class before Christmas was last Monday night and we had a visit from the man himself Santa. There was a great question/answer session with Santa, sing song and party games. A big thanks to Santa for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit us. Set dancing classes will resume on Jan 6th.

Scór Na bPáistí competitions will be early in the New Year, so the holidays will be a good time to start practicing for the different events.

Also don’t forget if you want to enter the question time for Scór na Nóg get your names in as soon as possible as the Co. final is on Jan 18th and names have to be registered by Jan 10th. Winners of the Co. Final go straight through to the All Ireland final.

 Borrisoleigh Historical Society

Delia Ryan and Teresa Kiely make a presentation to Marie and John Hackett at a recent meeting of Borrisoleigh Historical Society which was held in Hackett’s Cottage, Summerhill.

The newly formed Borrisoleigh Historical Society would like to thank all who supported our Historical Walk of Borrisoleigh during the "Gathering"..It was a very enjoyable occasion. We then welcomed Mr. John Flannery, Ormond Historical Society Nenagh who delivered the inaugural lecture of the Society on Corporal Lewis Ryan who was born in Coarsepark, Borrisoleigh in 1892. Our second lecture was delivered by Mr. Sean Hogan, Author of "Black & Tans in North Tipperary". Both lectures were outstanding and we sincerely thank both gentlemen. We also thank everyone who supported the lectures and who helped us in any way since we commenced. Looking forward to more exciting lectures and field trips in 2014. New members are always welcome. Very happy Christmas to all.

 Bush and Briar Ramblers

On Saturday, December 14th 2013, the Bush and Briar Ramblers got their first taste of winter walking conditions with a windy and wet morning hike in the hills around Kilcommon on the Pilgrim Loop. Well done and thank you to the 10 hardy walkers who braved the elements and made this an enjoyable and inspiring experience. Special thanks to Tony Madden and Margaret O’Connor for keeping the group on the right path. On route we visited the Penal Mass Rock and at the end we took a stroll around the Kilcommon Prayer Garden.

The Family Giving Tree is now a well-established feature in our Parish in the lead up to Christmas. It offers people the opportunity of giving with a difference. Families or individuals can purchase a Trócaire life changing gift which will benefit the poor of the developing world. We live in recessionary times, of that there is no doubt, but our Family Giving Tree is just an option that you might like to consider in the run up to Christmas.
This year’s selection of gifts include:

the gift of chicks to a family in Kenya (€7);
the gift of a birth cert to children in Somalia (€15);
the gift of school support to a child in Guatemala/Honduras (€30);
the gift of goats to help a family rebuild their lives in DRC (€50);
the gift of legal aid in Guatemala (€65);
the gift of help for grandparents in Kenya/Ethiopia (€85);
the gift of safe motherhood in Somalia and Guatemala (€100);
the gift of water worldwide (€150);
the gift of a house to a family in DRC (€200).

Gifts can be purchased in the usual places: The Post Office; O’Connell’s Pharmacy; Stapleton’s and Coffey’s. On the purchase of a gift you will receive a Card to send to the person in whose name you purchased the gift and a ribbon representing your gift to be attached to the Family Giving Tree in the Sacred Heart Church.
