Borrisoleigh Development Association

Borrisoleigh Annual 2013

It is that time of the year again and this year the Borrisoleigh Community Development Association plan to produce another annual. We would be very grateful if the clubs/organisations/schools of the community could once again forward us an article and pictures of the activity of your clubs/organisations/schools during the year of 2013. We are also seeking interesting articles that relate to Borrisoleigh. They can be present day or relate to the past. It would be great if some photos accompanied the articles but we will accept articles without photos. Plus we would like to get articles from people who have left the area, of their memories about Borrisoleigh, or from people who have moved into the area of their experiences in the locality. We would also welcome suggestions that may help us to improve the annual.

We aim to launch the annual on the Fair of Borris weekend. To enable us to do this we will need all articles and photos by Friday the 25th October 2013. Can all articles be sent in word if possible with photos as separate attachments to this email address borrisoleighannual@gmail.com. Once again your assistance in the production of the 2013 annual will be appreciated.

New climbing wall in Upperchurch
Work on the new climbing and bouldering wall in Upperchurch village is finally complete after a number of very busy months. The brand new facility will be open for viewing at the Upperchurch walking festival (8th, 9th & 10th November) and all are welcome to come and see experienced climbers from mid Tipperary Hill Walkers demonstrate what can be done on the wall.

We’re delighted to be already having interest from groups wishing to use the facility on a regular basis. A number of people are being trained to become safety instructors on the new wall during the month of November and the facility will then be opened for supervised climbing sessions on Wednesday nights (7pm-9.30pm) and Saturday mornings (10am-12.30) starting in December. As demand grows, the indoor climbing wall will extend its hours to meet the demand for supervised open sessions. If you are interested in booking your spot during December and January, please get in contact by calling 087 3919190 or via email at unaryan@marketingeye.ie. Remember no experience is needed. We’ll provide all the equipment and instruction to ensure you have a safe, exciting and fun experience.

Borris Ileigh Juvenile GAA Notes
U16: Our appreciation to the Costello family have donated a fabulous trophy to the Club in memory of Pakie Costello who was a staunch Borris Ileigh GAA Club man. Pakie served for many years in many different roles with the Club and was an Honorary President of the Borris Ileigh Club at the time of his death. It has been decided to run an U16 Parish league for the trophy and the inaugural Pakie Costello U16 Parish league is scheduled to take place on the bank holiday Monday, 28 October in the Town Park with activities commencing at 1pm.

U10: Also been run on the bank holiday Monday at 1pm is the U10 Parish League for the Thomas Gleeson Cup. Players will be texted with the details. Both sets of players will be treated to a barbeque on the day.

Our U10 team took part in the annual Paddy Carey u10 hurling tournament in the Ragg last week end. They recorded a good win in the semi final against Upperchurch but were beaten by Drom Inch in the final. Thanks to the Drom & Inch Club for the invitation.
