Borrisoleigh Active Social Club

A group of us travelled by bus to an excellent concert in Brú Ború, Cashel on Saturday night last, where we were entertained by a feast of talented artists, including Muriel O’Connor, Fran Curry, Gay Brazil, TR Dallas, Tony Allen, ‘Moll’, Michael Collins & Lorcan Kennedy. Lorcan at the ago of just 14 years, performed some of his own songs. He was delighted to meet us afterwards along with his mother, who is a native of Borrisoleigh, Fiona O’Donnell. We wish Lorcan every success in his future career in the music world. It certainly was a great night of comedy, music & song! & thanks to our driver Trevor for transport.

The AGM of the Borrisoleigh Active Social Club takes place on Wed Feb 7th at 7pm in the Community Centre Borrisoleigh.  This Club is open to men & women of 50+ years and follows the guidelines of The Active Retirement Association of Ireland . Membership €20 to be paid at the meeting. This Club was set up nearly 9 years ago and is a great way of meeting new people and going on organised outings. If anyone wants more details please contact Lucia 086 3961211 or Eileen 087 9849848.

Reader query

A reader has contacted us with an unusual question and we’re hoping that one of you can help.

This person was passing by Kilfithmone recently and at the crossroads there is a stone, apparently on a plinth (see attached photo). They are wondering if anyone would know anything about this stone, if it might be an old lifting stone, like the one at the cross in Ballingarry, or if it is just decorative.

If you can enlighten us on this question please let us know on info@borrisoleigh.ie

Borris-Ileigh GAA History Book

Hi all,

I’ve been tasked with compiling and writing a history of GAA activity in the primary schools, e.g. North Finals/ County Finals, Primary Game, INTO mini sevens etc.

The more recent history is fairly well documented, however older records are sparse. I don’t want to leave anyone out!

If you are aware of any noteworthy GAA related facts from 1987 to present in relation to Fantane NS, St Theresa’s GNS, St Patrick BNS or Scoil Naomh Cualán please get in contact with me at scoilnaomhcualan@gmail.com. Or you can drop photos, newspaper cuttings etc. into the school and I’ll photocopy or scan what’s needed.

I’m looking for photos of teams, photos of Primary Game representatives, write ups from finals, coaches that were involved over the years, pupils who went on to represent Tipperary in the various codes, GAA quiz winners etc.

Many thanks for your help,

Michael Small
