Borrisoleigh Community Centre received some important visitors on Thursday last in the persons of Minister Pat Carey and Minister of State Mary White of the Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs Department.

This impromptu visit was to see at first hand the progress of one of the projects part funded by North Tipperary Leader Partnership through their Department. They were accompanied by Sean Crowley and members of the Leader Partnership as well as Maire Hoctor T.D. and local Councilors Pauline Coonan, John Carroll and John Hogan. Members of the Committee were at hand to welcome them and show them the Centre. Needless to say they were very impressed with the building and it’s future potential, and looked forward to it’s completion and opening in the near future, as we all do.

Borris-Ileigh Juvenile GAA Club

At half-time at the All-Ireland qualifier in Portlaoise last Sunday we fielded two teams against two Offaly Cumann na mBunscoil selections. We had received the invitation to take part from Eoin Kennedy of Knockahorna who is teaching in Kinnity NS and made the arrangements for the games to take place. 22 players from the club wearing the Blue & Gold participated in the games and we also provided the two referees who were togged out in their maroon and white kits. The children travelled together to the game by bus with the team mentors Brendan Kenny, Michael Carey, Jimmy Stapleton, Ruairi O’Connell and T.J Ryan. Following two enjoyable and competitive games we were able to relax and enjoy the second half and Tipperary’s victory over Offaly. Each player and referee received a certificate as a memento of their participation and we returned a happy group to Supermacs in Thurles for refreshments. Congratulations and well done to all the players and mentors. Thanks also to Eoin Kennedy and Offaly Cumann na mBunscoil, Jimmy our bus driver and Michael Ryan who was on hand to ensure that we had some pictures of the occasion.

Columban Missionary Visits our Parish

Sr. Mary McHugh with Peg McLoughney and Kitty O’Halloran

Columban Misionary Sr. Mary McHugh, a native of Co. Mayo, was a guest speaker at all of last weekend’s Masses. She spoke of the work of the Columbans in various parts of the world and made specific mention of the inspiration and support that Bishop Thomas Quinlan was to their Order. It was very interesting to hear how monies given to the missions are so effectively utilized in support of those most acutely in need.
