On Wednesday June 11th Fr. Michael Barry was invited by RTE to take part in The Tubridy Show. The topic of discussion centered around the issues and difficulties that people with disabilities often have to encounter when traveling abroad on business or for holiday purposes. 

Tipp FM’s Classic Cafe to visit Borrisoleigh
 

Tipp Fm outside broadcast unit will be in Borrisoleigh on Thursday the 19th June. Fran Curry will present his show ‘The Classic Café’ outside the Clodagh Bar from 12 to 2pm.

Peadar Cummins Hurling Tournament

In glorious sunshine the annual U14 inter-divisional tournament, held in honour of Peadar Cummins a former stalwart of Borris-Ileigh Juvenuile GAA Club, took place last weekend.

Following the semi-finals in which the Mid beat the North after extra time in the Ragg and the South overcame the West in Borrisoleigh, both finals were played in Borrisoleigh. In the Shield final the North defeated the West.

Later in the main final the Mid made it two in a row with a well deserved victory over the South. Neil Ryan secretary of the Juvenile County Board presented the cup to the captain of the victorious Mid team.

A big thank you is due to all who helped out on the day to make this tournament a continued success. to all who made and provided the refreshments, those that served them, the referees, linesmen, umpires and the young scoreboard operators, those who prepared the field and dressing rooms. Well done also to the managers and selectors of each team. Special mention to all the young players from each division who took part . Their skill and determination and sportsmanship was a fitting tribute to such an important event in the juvenile club calendar.
 

 

Borris-Ileigh GAA representatives in Cork on Sunday last!

Matt Stapleton of St Patrick’s Boys School lined out for the Tipperary team against Cork in the Primary game match held during the interval in the Munster semi-final in Pairc Ui Chuiomh last Sunday. In a very entertaining game Tipperary came out on top on a scoreline of 1-2 to 0-1. Congratulations and well done to Matt and all of the young players who took part. Well done also to Vinnie Stapleton who was a selector on the team.

Hurling Championship

U12’s were defeated by Kildangan last Friday and next play Burgess in Borrisoleigh this Friday 13th June at 7.00pm. The U14’s were due to begin their campaign this week but all games were postponed for a week and the game V Ballina is now scheduled to take place in Ballina next Wednesday 18th June at 7.00pm

Pictured here are players and supporters of the recent North Final held in Nenagh between Scoil Bhríde and Ballinaclough N.S. Ballinaclough emerged victorious on the day after a thrilling encounter with just a single goal dividing the sides at full time.

Vintage and Working Tractor Run

 

For all tractor enthusiasts, Sunday, July 6th, 2008 is a date not to be missed. As part of the Borrisoleigh Fun Day in aid of the defibrillator programme a road run for tractors will take place. So join in the fun and bring that tractor to the start line. Vintage, veteran and working tractors are all welcome. This event will be stewarded and the route will be approximately 15 miles. So get cracking with your preparations and experience a fun-filled day. All that is asked of you is that your tractor is insured and you carry no passengers or have farm implements attached. Details of assembly, registration, start time and route will appear at a later date. Hope to see you there.

 

St. Cualan’s Walk

The annual fund raising charity walk which is a major contributor to the finances of St Cualan’s Club, will take place on Sun June 15th. Walkers of all ages are earnestly encouraged to get out their walking shoes, to collect as much sponsorship as possible and to present themselves at 6pm in the Square for a leisurely stroll on the 15th. All are welcome to participate in this very worthy venture and new walkers would be particularly most welcome and appreciated.
