Borrisoleigh Active Social Club

Our monthly meeting for May takes place this Wed May 1st at 7pm in the Community Centre Borrisoleigh.

The club would like to offer its sympathies to the family of Delia Ryan on her passing last week. Delia was a very active member of our club since its foundation 9 years ago. Ar deis dé go raibh a hanam.

Mariupol Book Launch

Since the launch of the booklet, – MARIUPOL, – A City Named Grief and Fear, – I have received a total of 82 messages from Ukrainians and displaced people from Mariupol, expressing their gratitude to the people of Borrisoleigh. Here is a minute sample.

THE DIARY OF KATERINA SAVENKO is being read by Irish voices today.

I thank the people of that small village for supporting Ukraine! For the help of Mariupol and for the voice from us all being heard in the Tipperary region in Ireland!

3000 km from Mariupol, last night Friday in a small Irish village, rung the words of Catherine Savenko. The day we forget Mariupol and turn our back on Ukraine will officially be the day of the death of humanity.

The White House forgot, Europe and the World forgot, – but you, dearest people from that village remembered our Golgotha. – We bow low before you.

Thank you. Because of you, Katherina and Vitalya Savenko live on. Their deaths, at the hands of inhumans, – and the murders of 86000 Mariupolians will be known to all mankind. Be proud, – you stood by us in our time of suffering and you stood by truth. My Almighty God always bless your village and its people.

Ukraine’s freedom has not perished, – and it never will, while good people like you exist. Thank you with all of our hearts.

When I thought that our grief and pain had sidestepped the soul of human compassion, – people from your village, – you have restored my faith. Thank you.

Borris-Ileigh GAA History Book

Hi all,

I’ve been tasked with compiling and writing a history of GAA activity in the primary schools, e.g. North Finals/ County Finals, Primary Game, INTO mini sevens etc.

The more recent history is fairly well documented, however older records are sparse. I don’t want to leave anyone out!

If you are aware of any noteworthy GAA related facts from 1987 to present in relation to Fantane NS, St Theresa’s GNS, St Patrick BNS or Scoil Naomh Cualán please get in contact with me at scoilnaomhcualan@gmail.com. Or you can drop photos, newspaper cuttings etc. into the school and I’ll photocopy or scan what’s needed.

I’m looking for photos of teams, photos of Primary Game representatives, write ups from finals, coaches that were involved over the years, pupils who went on to represent Tipperary in the various codes, GAA quiz winners etc.

Many thanks for your help,

Michael Small
