Community Centre – St. Stephen’s Day Run/Walk

This years event took place in very wet and windy conditions.  The  number of runners taking part was on a par with previous years but the bad weather did reduce the number of family walkers.  There was a great atmosphere among the "hardy" runners with people from Upperchurch, Borrisoleigh, Nenagh, Templemore, Toomevara, Coolquill, The Ragg, Moyne, Killea, Thurles, Australia and Limerick taking part.

Paddy Stapleton and Brendan Maher were on hand to start the race.

The mens 10 km race was won in a time of 36 min 12 sec by Michael Kiely followed by Michael Carey and Sean Percy.

The ladies 10 km was won by Aoife Delargy in a time of 46 min 6 sec followed by Laura Carey and Nicola Loughnane.

The mens 5 km run was won by Noel O’Brien (home on holidays from Australia) and the ladies was won by Sharon Young with the biggest cheer of the day reserved for Richie "The Hare" Tynan who came second as did Marie McGrath in the ladies 5 km

Conor Kenny was the first senior hurler home and Aoife Delargy the first camogie player home.

The race and walk was followed by refreshments in the Community Centre, where the prizes were presented.  A special word of thanks on behalf of the Centre Committee must go to all the volunteers on the day who helped in any way, without these volunteers the race could not take place.

The funds raised will go towards the annual maintenance costs for the centre.

Finally, the Management Committee would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year.
