St Cualans’ go Sailing

Despite the inclement  conditions on Thursday last August 1st a large group from St. Cualans’took to the road  for their outing to Killaloe.  A big thank you to all who helped out in any way to make the day the success it was. Names are too many to mention but you know who you are! Your kindness and support is much appreciated’

The day started with Mass at 10.30 and then straight to the waiting bus. We were entertained on the bus by none other than Phil Maher on his accordion. As one person remarked ‘Where else would you get it? Being entertained by Phil Maher at this hour of the morning!’

Our first  port of call was to Ballina, where a welcoming Fr Ted. O’Rahilly very kindly put the Community Centre there at our disposal for our picnic. After refreshments and chats we boarded the bus again and headed to St. Flannan’s Cathedral in Killaloe which had many interesting facts and architectural features. Our third stop was to the riverside where we boarded the Spirit of Killaloe and went on a cruise on Lough Derg. On board we had more refreshments, chats, songs and music. The ones who stayed on the top deck disembarked with a ‘windswept’ look from the warm breeze they enjoyed and luckily those who wished to experience the trip on the top deck could as the rain disappeared for the duration of the boat trip.

Our final stop was the Thatch in Ballycommon where we were served the best of food. Everyone ate heartily after an appetite worked up on the boat. Phil kindly played again for us and we had a couple of hours of music, song and dance in the Thatch. Everyone was in high spirits when we returned to Borrisoleigh and are looking forward to the next outing already! All agreed that it was a great day. So next time why don’t you come along and join in the fun?
