 Update of School Closures
(This notice was posted on the website on Saturday January 9th)

All national and secondary schools are to remain closed until Thursday 14 January, Minister for Education Batt O’Keefe announced on Friday 8th January. The decision was taken following a review of the weekend weather forecast at a meeting of the Government’s Emergency Response Committee.

The Minister accepts that the closures will cause inconvenience but said the safety of students, teachers and parents was more important. The decision comes amid growing fears among school principals and boards of management about the impact of further severe weather on school communities. It will be widely welcomed by them.

A decision on whether Ireland’s 4,000 schools will remain closed or re-opened later next week will be made following a review by the Committee at a meeting on Tuesday.

All dressed up and SNOW where to go!

Despite the cold spell of late some locals were not deterred from braving the elements. Fr. Michael is seen here on his latest gadget (a contraption for pulling his wheelchair) challenging Catherine Harty to a race on her new set of wheels! The event was witnessed by Ruby Cahill who took this photograph. The winner, it has to be said, is too much of a lady to gloat about her victory (he hopes!).
