 St Joseph’s College Hurling Blitz

First Year Hurling Blitz

The first year hurlers of St. Joseph’s Borrisoleigh had a successful and hugely enjoyable day out at the recently organised seven a side hurling blitz in Thurles. Both the newly constructed ‘Dome’ and Thurles Sars indoor centre played host to a very skilful generation of young hurlers from a variety of schools. Borrisoleigh, like many others entered two even ability teams. The competition was split into two groups whereby the first and second team in each group would qualify to the ‘A’ final and a shield final respectively. Both teams got off to an excellent start winning their opening matches comfortably. Essentially the last game in each group would decide the faith of both Borris teams. ‘Team 1’ had to defeat an excellent Ballingarry team on penalties as it was Borris who were lucky to draw the game with a last minute goal from the powerful Paul . Jim  was the hero who scored the decisive penalty that sent Borrisoleigh through to the ‘A’ final. In the final they turned in their most complete performance when overturning Ballingarry’s other team. Borrisoleigh’s ‘Team 2’ were highly unfortunate to be beaten in their last group game, going down to eventual shield winners Newport school on a scoreline of 3-2. Despite winning two games and losing two, only losing two games by a single goal on both instances, Team 2 were out of the competition. Congratulations to the successful team captain Odhrán  and vice- captain Paul . Borrisoleigh school would like to extend its thanks to the organisers of the competition, those who refereed matches on the day and the various helpers who contributed to the excellently run blitz.

 Lighting up for Christmas

Mick Hogan of Pallas Street officially turned on the lights of his home which for the season of Christmas becomes a veritable Santa’s Grotto and Bethlehem in Borris! No sooner had the lights begun to shine when the cars began to arrive with children of all ages who were mesmerised by the sight of what they saw.

The lights will remain on from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. each evening until the New Year and all children young and old are welcome to come and have a look!

A beautiful crib is to be seen with lots more to see!!
