Track Attack Notes

Track-Attackers at the recent Drom 5km

Fifth Annual Borrisoleigh 5km

The fifth annual Borrisoleigh 5km road race which is sponsored by Declan Maher Financial Services takes place next Tuesday night (26th June) and it promises to be an evening rich in all that is good about the sport of road running catering for athletes of all ages and ability.

8pm is the start time for the Athletics Ireland permitted event and if the course record is to be broken on the night, the first athlete will cross under the gantry in the village square before the clock strike 8:15pm. The course is set up for good times and with the country lane part of the course after been resurfaced, we should be in for a cracking race if the weather permits it.

Clonmel’s International athlete Sean Tobin is the two time reigning champion while also holding the course record at an impressive 14:58 while Borrisokane athlete Siobhan O’Doherty remains unbeaten in the four year history of the race and holds the fastest recording of 16:42.

This year’s winning male and female athlete will win €200 each in prize money with the second placed athletes picking up €100 each while third places will receive €75. In a unique aspect to the race, a €100 bonus is on offer to the top 3 men and 3 women if they can beat the aforementioned course record times.

Some fantastic hand crafted slate trophies are on offer for the age-group categories. These will be awarded to the first finisher in the Over 40, 50 and 60 men and women age-groups while the first Under 18’s will also climb the podium.

This year will see a change to the team structure and for the first time, teams will be made up of both male and female members. Each team consists of 3 men and 3 women and the eventual winners will be the first club name etched on the new Track-Attack Cup while also picking up €300 for their winning efforts. Clubs are reminded here that the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed individuals (men & women) are not permitted on teams. The overage and under 18 winners are permitted as team members.

Prizes are also on offer to every 25th placed finisher while all participants will be treated to ice-cream and refreshments at the post-race presentation. The race will be chip-timed by Premier Timing Systems. The entry fee on the night will be €10 for adults while Under 18’s are €5. Entries will be taken in the Parish Centre (behind church) from 6:30pm to 7:45pm.

Track-Attack hope to cover this year’s race live on Facebook which you will be able to follow on Borrisoleigh Track Attack.

The evening will cater for more than the athletes. At 7pm, Track-Attack’s “Find the Fairies on the Trail” will start from the square and will proceed up Pallas Street and enter the track opposite the school, walking laps of the fairy trail and return back to the square. It will be a 3km family friendly walk and we welcome all comers to be part of. Entries taken from 6:30 to 7pm with an entry fee of €5 for adults and kids are free.

Track-Attack extends a warm welcome to everyone to come to Borrisoleigh and be part of a great sporting evening.

Borris-Ileigh GAA – Club Notes

Tipperary GAA:

Congratulations to our Minor panelist’s JD Devaney and Kevin Maher who are now through to the Munster Minor Hurling Final where they will play Limerick on July 1st. Corks comprehensive victory over Waterford along with Limericks one point victory over Clare sent us through to the final on score difference. We would like to wish the lads and all involved the best of luck

Cumann na mBunscol:

Commiserations to the Camogie and Hurling team from Scoil Naomh Cualan who were beaten in their respective U13 school finals last Wednesday in Semple Stadium. They gave it everything but it just wasn’t to be their day. But they should be very proud of themselves and their achievements

Best Wishes:

We in the club would like to wish Brendan Maher the best of luck in his recovery from an extensive injury to his ACL he sustained in Tipperary’s recent 2 point defeat to Clare last in Semple Stadium in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship. We are gutted to lose him for the rest of the season but we have no doubt he’ll be back in the maroon and white along with the blue and gold in 2019 fitter and stronger than ever.
