New Course – Thurles Driver Theory Test

Return to Rathmoy

After an absence of 51 years, Fr. Paudie Ryan returned to his native parish. Ordained to the Mill Hill Fathers in 1975, Fr. Paudie set out on the African missions and for most of his missionary life has been based in Kenya. There, with the help of some dedicated locals, he operates a school and orphanage in the settlement of Katamega that caters for over 1,000 children.

Fr. Paudi visited the old homestead in Rathmoy where he spent his childhood. Some of the older generation of the locality would well remember the Ryans, before they departed for Dublin in 1971. Of particular memory to many, was the white NSU Prince motor car driven by Fr. Paudie’s mother. That was in a time when Rathmoy and the surrounding locality contained the sum total of three motor cars.

The photo shows Fr. Paudie Ryan outside the family homestead in Rathmoy.
