Borrisoleigh Historical Society
Our Society is rejoicing in the very successful hosting of events last Friday.
The first event took place in our Church at 7pm. This very special ceremony was conducted by Fr. Hennessy with the Choir’s participation and Joe Small in attendance. Needless to say, the central part of this ceremony was the blessing of the bell shrine which would not be in the Church but for Joe Small.
The second event took place in the magnificent GAA Sport Complex at 8pm. This was a splendid example of how organisations can combine for the good of the wider community. Here Jamie Groome gave an excellent lecture on the Bell Shrine.
Finally, the official launch of “For the honour and glory of the Little Village” was conducted by former Irish Ambassador Joe Small, who won an all-Ireland minor Medal with Tipperary seventy golden years ago. This was followed by significant presentations and entertainment culminating with quality refreshments.
We thank everyone who made this event such a memorable occasion.
The highlights of the evening have been captured by none other than genial photographer Tom Doherty. Film director, Maggie Bourke has recorded everything. There is a limited supply of copies of above project still available and Parishioners would by advised to purchase as soon as possible.

————————————————————————————————-
Hi all,
I’ve been tasked with compiling and writing a history of GAA activity in the primary schools, e.g. North Finals/ County Finals, Primary Game, INTO mini sevens etc.
The more recent history is fairly well documented, however older records are sparse. I don’t want to leave anyone out!
If you are aware of any noteworthy GAA related facts from 1987 to present in relation to Fantane NS, St Theresa’s GNS, St Patrick BNS or Scoil Naomh Cualán please get in contact with me at scoilnaomhcualan@gmail.com. Or you can drop photos, newspaper cuttings etc. into the school and I’ll photocopy or scan what’s needed.
I’m looking for photos of teams, photos of Primary Game representatives, write ups from finals, coaches that were involved over the years, pupils who went on to represent Tipperary in the various codes, GAA quiz winners etc.
Many thanks for your help,
Michael Small
