MARY’S MEALS

Mary’s Meals is a global movement that sets up school feeding programs in the world’s poorest countries. €22 feeds a child in a place of education for an entire school yar. So, we are back again this year to raise funds in the following way: From August 7th John Egan will walk 200km from Thurles to Knock. Martin Bourk will cycle through thirty-one villages in South and West Tipp. Darren Dunne a young man from Nenagh will swim from Dromineer to Ballina. By giving these children food and education we give them hope. We give them back their childhood – what a gift to give a child and for this we need your help. We are asking if you would like to support this cause and place money in an envelope and put it in the offertory basket. Mark the envelope as ‘Marys Meals’. Please put your name and address on the envelope if you would like a receipt.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

“Don’t do anything for selfish purposes, but with humility think of others as better than yourselves. Instead of each person watching out for their own good, watch out for what is better for others.”

Borrisoleigh Active Social Club

We hit the road on 18th July, this time it was our annual MYSTERY TOUR,  despite lots of questions & interrogation, no one knew where we were heading. We left the Borrisoleigh GAA grounds at 9.30am & headed north. Our first stop was a visit to the beautiful Birr Castle, where we got a guided tour inside the castle which is currently the home of the 7th Earl of Ross.  We enjoyed lovely tea & scones in the visitors centre & many enjoyed a walk in the spectacular parklands & gardens while others visited the historic science centre. We left Birr & headed off on the next leg of our adventure.  We arrived at Banagher Marina where we embarked the ‘River Queen’. We enjoyed a lovely cruise on the River Shannon, we stopped at Meelick pier where many availed of the opposition to take a stroll along the river bank & across the Meelick Weir walkway where the views were spectacular. We then headed to Flynn’s in Banagher, where we enjoyed a lovely meal. As always, we had a very enjoyable day out & we’re looking forward to next year’s mystery trip already.

We have an entertaining line up for August, commencing with a day trip to Kilkee on August 1st. We are having a barbecue in the parish centre on August 7th. We are taking a trip to Cabragh Wetlands on August 22nd & we’re going to Bru Boru, in Cashel on Aug. 29th to see Derek Ryan.  Anyone wishing to go on any of these trips, please get your name in ASAP.
