Borrisoleigh Historical Society

Sunday last, again saw a great turnout of people for the ,now, annual event of the blessing of the Christmas Crib, situated on the Thurles Road out of the village. Father Hennessy was on hand to perform the official blessing and to bless all present for the coming Christmas and the year ahead. Then it was time to adjourn indoors and enjoy the hospitality, song, music, tea and refreshments.

Photos from Christmas party

The Annual Christmas party took place on Sun Dec 7th in the Community Centre Borrisoleigh.  The day started with Mass  followed by Christmas Dinner and great music and entertainment for the evening.  We’d like to thank everybody that helped to make the day a success. Thanks to Fr Hennessy for saying the Mass and the choir for the beautiful singing to enhance the Mass. Thanks to Fionnula and her staff for providing the lovely Christmas Dinner and it went down a treat. Thanks to Phil & Johnny Maher for the music and dancing & singing. We had some local talent who very kindly gave their time to entertain us. We had John Stapleton,  Ava Ryan, Ann Marie & Claire Kavanagh and 2 wonderful adult set dancing groups.  We also want to thank all the local businesses & everybody that donated spot prizes for the raffle . The local support is brilliant.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to wish each and everyone of you a Happy & Peaceful Christmas and every good wish for 2026.

Borrisoleigh Community Centre

Borrisoleigh Community Centre opened its doors on March 11th 2011. The centre hosts meeting rooms, a large hall with WIFI and an 85” screen to host presentations. The large hall can cater for large groups for functions with dinners included after funeral plus various other groups. Educations is to the fore with various bodies ETB, NTDC, CE Scheme etc to re-educate people in the ever-changing rapid world especially in technology.

Two years ago, we installed an industrial kitchen with the view to providing meals for home delivery throughout Tipperary starting off with 100 meals. This has now exploded into approximately 23,000 cooked and delivered to homes in 2025 alone.

We have built a new shed 5mtrs x 5mtrs for storage. We have installed 20 solar panels with 14kw batteries, changed old lighting in the Main Hall and Kitchen over to LED. The energy cost are huge, thus the idea of going with green energy solutions. A large polytunnel has being erected to rear of the centre in order to grow fresh herbs and vegetables for use in the kitchen. Also, various cut flowers are being sown to provide floral bouquets for use in the adjoining Church. Active Retirement Group have provided a rose garden which will provide beautiful flowers for the church altar.

Each year on the 26th of December, we host a cycle, run and walk from the GAA grounds to raise funds for the community centre. Spot prizes galore and we hope you can join us even for a cup of tea and coffee. The above activities give you an insight into the running of the centre. All of which we hope to expand in the years ahead.

We would like to wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas.

Liam Donnelly, Michael Small and Sinead Ryan.
