Community Cycle
Last Saturday we headed to Youghal to cycle the greenway to Middleton. The weather gods were very good to us and we enjoyed a beautiful day out. We visited the middleton distillery for lunch before returning to Youghal. We stayed in the Walter Raleigh Hotel where we enjoyed lovely food and some great singing from some of the group. Next day after breakfast we cycled to Ardmore again in glorious sunshine and here we walked the cliff walk and enjoyed lunch before cycling back to Youghal. Thanks to everyone who travelled and looking forward to our next trip.

The following is a brief explanation of the various groupings in our Diocese; ie Diocesan Pastoral Council, Parish Pastoral Team and Parish Pastoral Combinations.
Ten years ago, in September 2015, the Diocesan Pastoral Council (DPC) whose members are drawn from several of our parishes, came together, to chart the pathway for the future of the Church, in our diocese, and in our forty-six parishes.
By means of a lengthy Listening Process, which many of you may have engaged with, five priorities were identified as Seeds of Action for our Church into the future. You may have copies of this Diocesan Plan, known as the Seeds of Hope booklet, in your homes, in which the five seeds of Faith & Spirituality, Youth & Family, Community Engagement, Participation in Liturgy and Leadership & Co- responsibility, are outlined.
In order to activate this plan, Parish Pastoral Councils were established. These can be described as faith -filled leadership groups, through which priests and people work together, as co- responsible partners, in furthering the mission of Christ in their own parish.
By virtue of our Baptism, you and I are called to be part of this mission as each one of us is gifted by God and called to use our gifts in the service of God, and our community.
With this in mind, each parish was called on to establish a Parish Pastoral Team, which is a group working together, sharing the responsibility for building the parish into a vibrant Christian community, that promotes the Gospel values of love, justice and peace. Much good work is already being done, and many of you are already sharing your God given talents in the various ministries that are open to lay people.
As you know, the traditional way of being Church is changing. New structures are needed, and especially with an ever-decreasing number of priests serving in our parishes. There’s a great need for lay people like us to come forward, to preserve and nourish the faith in our communities, in our time.
The Holy Spirit is always active, prompting and calling us to keep the flame of faith alive, through our active participation in the life of our Church.
Another structure that has been put in place is the grouping of parishes, known as Parish Pastoral Combinations. Our four parishes of Loughmore/ Castleiney, Templemore/ Clonmore & Killea, Drom & Inch and Borrisoleigh/ Ileigh function under the umbrella name of An tSlí. Representatives from each parish meet on a regular basis, as ‘a family of parishes’, to collaborate in sharing the services of the priests, collective resources, and ideas for joint ventures, such as the Night of Sacred Song & Music, held in Drom Church recently. That was a wonderful example, where those involved in Music Ministry in our pastoral combination, gathered together to give praise and glory to God.
Let us call on the Holy Spirit to inspire us, and to give us the courage to live out our Baptismal calling, in the service of God, and one another.

We were deeply moved by the beautiful artwork created by Clare, which accompanied her heartfelt reading of Refaat Alareer’s poem “If I Must Die.”
Copies of this illustrated version are available to buy — all proceeds will go directly to Refaat’s surviving family, who remain trapped in Gaza.
We ended the evening by lighting candles — a gesture of remembrance, resistance, and hope for the people of Palestine, especially the innocent children enduring so much.
In solidarity. For justice. Against genocide.

————————————————————————————————-
Hi all,
I’ve been tasked with compiling and writing a history of GAA activity in the primary schools, e.g. North Finals/ County Finals, Primary Game, INTO mini sevens etc.
The more recent history is fairly well documented, however older records are sparse. I don’t want to leave anyone out!
If you are aware of any noteworthy GAA related facts from 1987 to present in relation to Fantane NS, St Theresa’s GNS, St Patrick BNS or Scoil Naomh Cualán please get in contact with me at scoilnaomhcualan@gmail.com. Or you can drop photos, newspaper cuttings etc. into the school and I’ll photocopy or scan what’s needed.
I’m looking for photos of teams, photos of Primary Game representatives, write ups from finals, coaches that were involved over the years, pupils who went on to represent Tipperary in the various codes, GAA quiz winners etc.
Many thanks for your help,
Michael Small
Pic of the Past
The Glebe House, Glenkeen In 1785, a few years after the erection of the Protestant Church in Borrisoleigh (which was located where St. Brigid’s Cemetery is today), Glebe House was built as a residence for the Protestant Minister. After the execution of the Act of 1869 many local Protestant business families left the parish, while others joined the Catholic Church. The Protestant Church was closed and Glebe House was sold in 1870 to Martin Ryan, an ancestor of the present-day owners.
