St. Cualans Senior Citizens Club
St. Cualan’s Senior Citizens Club was set up in May of 1991. We are a voluntary organization that aims to enhance the quality of the lives of the elderly in our parish.
We hold social afternoon gatherings that begin with the celebration of Mass. Afterwards we retire to our local restaurant where we are served with a beautiful meal and drinks both "hard and soft” are provided. These evenings involve singing and dancing, all supplied free by local talent and the senior citizens themselves. Our Christmas party is the highlight of the year. We would like to say "thank you" to our local community for their continued support over the years.
On occasion we go on day tours when our senior citizens dress themselves up to the "nines" and are raring for road for fun filled and most enjoyable outings. Down the years we have travelled the country and have accumulated many happy memories of past trips, the ‘post mortems’ of which were often recorded in verse.
A subsidised chiropody service is also provided by our organisation.
However much as we do as an organisation we are aware that we are only scratching the surface at present. We are really looking forward to the provision of our new parish centre. We have lot of ideas and ambitions in mind for this centre. It is hoped that quite a few of the elderly will drop in to have a chat, cup of tea, or a game of cards to while away the time. We in St Cualan’s will endeavour to play our part to have Borrisoleigh a better and nicer place for the older person to live in the twenty-first century.
